This year’s eclipse day (August 21st) will be a remarkable day for the big G and its mobile operating system. It was rumored last week but the company has come out to say in quote “meet the next release of Android and all of its super (sweet) new powers” on that day, which happens to be the day of the total solar eclipse day in the US and partial eclipse in other countries.
The special event for Android O’s arrival will be held in New York City on the purported dated, starting at 2:40 PM ET. The event’s showdown will hopefully be livestreamed, the company noted. Google has started a countdown to the main event and it is currently live on the Android website.
We were hoping some recently launched devices like the Nokia 8 and Tecno Spark K7 would come running the Android O operating system but that didn’t happen as these phones were launched earlier than expected. Though the phone came with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat, we expected something newer.
It is also assumed that Google will finally reveal what the ‘O’ in the name stands for on that occasion, quite a lot of names have been rumored over the last few months since the first Android O preview surfaced, the most anticipated names is still Oreo. It will not be unprecedented for Google to partner with a company making a sweet snacks, flashback to the Android 4.4 KitKat era.
You will agree that it makes sense to attribute the unveiling of the name to the solar eclipse in this case, because Oreos definitely makes you think of such an event – with the black disc covering its white creamy filling in just the same way as the moon covers the sun during an eclipse. Just in-case you want further proof? The filename for a video Google recently posted on Google+ contained the name Oreo right in it but the video has since then been taken down.
